Museum Mysteries

Join us at Islay's much-loved museum for some detective fun for kids with popular children’s author Mike Nicholson in another ‘Museum Mystery Squad’ adventure, featuring some weird and wonderful objects from Islay’s past. With word games, experiments and story-creating... and some very bad jokes!

For children aged 6–10. Sponsored by the Scottish Book Trust.

Bonny Babies

An early years session with lively children’s author Michelle Sloan reading from her books ‘Bonny Baby’ and ‘The Fourth Bonniest Baby in Dundee’, which was one of the books selected for last year's Bookbug Family Packs by the Scottish Book Trust.

For pre-5s and their parents. Sponsored by the Scottish Book Trust.

Time Travel with Janis Mackay

Travel in time with Janis Mackay’s hugely popular ‘Time Traveller’ trilogy, which takes readers from 1812 to World War I and then into the future!

Porridge the Tartan Cat

Feline fun and games featuring Alan Dapré’s much-loved ‘Porridge the Tartan Cat’ characters. Explore tongue-twisters, character creation, good/bad jokes and tartan cat origami!

Tales from the Farm

Come along for some farm-themed storytelling fun with popular local children’s author Mary McGregor! Mary will be reading stories from her book, ‘Baba King of the Castle and Jacket Potato’, and sharing some of the farm tales she has collected over the years.

For children aged 3–6. Refreshments provided.

2pm at RSPB farm, Loch Gruinart.
Free entry; children must be accompanied by a parent/carer.

Our lively schools programme for children of all ages takes place on 27th and 28th September and includes Mike Nicholson, Michelle Sloan, Janis Mackay, Alan Dapré, Catriona Black and Bernard MacLaverty. Our school visits have in large part been made possible thanks to sponsorship from the Scottish Book Trust, the Gaelic Books Council, and the Islay Energy Trust.
