Helen Sedgwick, who is a former research physicist, looks at how science has inspired her writing from The Comet Seekers to The Growing Season. In her critically acclaimed debut, four characters searched the skies for comets while struggling to find their place in history, and in her latest novel, The Growing Season, a new biotechnology has revolutionised human reproduction. Through these contrasting scientific fields, she has explored themes of belonging and ambition, loss and invention, gender and family.
